Sub-domain is a necessity for multi-languages website Our site has been built with multi-languages, English, Chinese Simplified and Traditional characters. All web pages have cross-links among these languages and everything works fine, including the listing in search engines. As the major part is in English, we have found that Chinese search engines had assumed that our site is in English. That means our expectation to reach Chinese language areas might be failed. We had checked Google for English and Chinese Traditional characters listings and satisfied with the outcome. It is not so for Chinese Simplified characters. That means our work for this part was failed completely. We may wonder why Google cannot work the same way for Chinese Simplified characters. It is guessed that there are different departments. Checking with Baidu, we have found that the listing stated that our site is in English. Certainly, we failed to have any traffic from China because of that. In order to solve this problem, we have just separated the Chinese language into two sub-domains, viz. www.cns.uscforesight.com for Chinese Simplified characters and www.cnt.uscforesigh.com for Chinese Traditional characters. We believe that this is a common problem for all websites. Therefore, if your site is not in China and has the intention to reach the market in China, you must arrange as we do. Remember that we cannot argue with search engines and it is a must to follow their ways. If they will handle the listing by such way, we must follow to meet their criteria. For those who have no experience with sub-domain, please do understand that sub-domain will be taken as an individual website. The best thing for sub-domain is that we do not need to register, just to have the re-directing function from the hosting service. Some hosting may have additional charge for sub-domain and some may not. |
